Steve Witherden has visited Welshpool Medical Centre on the campaign trail, after Rishi Sunak derided the problems of disabled people and attacked our welfare system by saying the UK had a ‘sicknote culture’.

Steve commented: “I’m here today in front of Welshpool Medical Centre. Of Welshpool’s approximately 6500 residents, 1500 are disabled, and that’s higher than the average in Powys.

“Yesterday we witnessed a disgusting attack by Rishi Sunak on the disabled. He wants to take away their disability benefits and it’s not just the disabled either, anyone who’s ill or sick, he wants to make it much harder for your GP to sign you off work sick, even when that’s what you need for your own health and for the safety of your colleagues.

“If I was elected your MP, I would do my utmost to protect the rights of anyone who’s disabled, temporarily ill, or incapacitated.”
